Long-time CMS coach Jodie Burton honored at final regular season game in Ducey Gym

CLAREMONT, Calif. – At halftime of the final regular season women’s basketball game of the 57-year history of Ducey Gym on Feb. 20, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athletics honored long-time women’s basketball and current women’s golf head coach Jodie Burton.

Michael Sutton ’76, CMS Director of Athletics, William B. Arce Professor and George R. Roberts Fellow, founding CMS Director of Athletics Bill Arce and current Claremont McKenna College President Hiram Chodosh presented Burton with a plaque to honor her for the many contributions she has made to CMS Athletics as a coach and administrator over the years.

As head women’s basketball coach from 1979-2002 and 2003-2011, Burton led the Athenas to 507 wins and six conference championships. As the women’s golf head coach, Burton has led the Athenas to a pair of SCIAC Championships in the program’s young history.

She is the senior women's administrator for the department and during her career at CMS, has helped increase the number of women's sports from six to 11. She served 31 years as women's basketball coach and has also served as volleyball and interim women's tennis coach.
