Town Earns Milestone With Win Over Cross-Street Rival
CMS beat Pomona-Pitzer 8-2 at Arce Field on Friday and in the process gave Head Coach Randy Town his 400th career win. Town is one of 38 current Division III baseball coaches and the only one in the SCIAC with 400 wins. He is also the second CMS coach to win 400 games as founding baseball coach Bill Arce had 443 wins during his career. CMS improved to 11-13-1 overall and 7-3 (2nd) in SCIAC while Pomona-Pitzer fell to 21-5 and 8-2.
David Noble (SR, San Diego) recorded the win for the Stags pitching eight-plus innings. He scattered five hits and only allowed one run. He had five 1-2-3 innings and only faced four batters in two other innings. Noble struck out four batters and walked only two.
The Stags scored single runs in the first and third innings and broke the game open with three runs in the fourth. They added two runs in the sixth and another in the eighth for an 8-0 lead.
Alex Weber-Shapiro (SO, Berkeley) was three for three with four RBI's to lead the team. He had one of team's four doubles and improved his team-best batting average to .420. Travis Nishioka (SO, Honolulu, HI) was three for five with a double and a home run and scored two runs. Andrew Blomberg (JR, Honolulu, HI) was two for four with a double and an RBI while Matt Moyer (SO, Oakland) had a double with an RBI and a run scored. David Spiller (SO, Sacramento) reached base three times and scored each time.
CMS takes on Pomona-Pitzer again tomorrow. They walk across the street for a doubleheader with the first game scheduled to begin at 11:00.
