The Stags are set to host a slew of out-of-state opponents in the California Classic Tournament this weekend. The Stags' Friday opponent, the Ithaca Bombers, have defeated Cal Lutheran 8-3 and fallen 10-6 to Pomona-Pitzer to start their 2009 campaign. The Bombers defeated the Stags last year 14-3, finishing the year 30-13 and advancing to the NCAA Regionals.
On Saturday, the Stags will face Rutgers-Newark and Rutgers-Camden . The 4-1 Rutgers-Newark Raiders are riding a four game winning streak into the tournament this weekend. The Stags defeated the Raiders 16-4 last year behind a seven inning complete game by Ryan Kaup.
On the back end of the double header, the Stags will try to avenge last year's 13-12 loss to Rutgers-Camden. The Scarlet Raptors have started the season 2-3.
The Stags will conclude the California Classic on Sunday against the Puget Sound Loggers. The Stags fell 9-3 to the Loggers last year in the first game of the 2008 California Classic. The forecast shows nothing but sunshine this weekend, so come support the Stags before taking off for spring break.
