Baseball Loses to Top-Ranked Chapman

ORANGE, CA -- The Stags had their hands full against the fourth-ranked Chapman Panthers (17-4) and lost 16-7 at Hart Park in Orange, California. CMS lost to Chapman at home on February 16, when the Panthers were ranked fifth in Division III according to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

Unlike their first meeting, the Stags were able to put runs on the board, but an early 10-2 deficit in the top 3rd diminished any chances of a CMS victory. Jake Spring, the third pitcher in the five-pitcher rotation for the day, pitched 3 1/3 innings and struck out four of the 11 batters faced and had only two earned runs in the game. Third baseman Steve Dannaway (SR, Honolulu, HI [pictured]) was 2-4 with three RBI’s, a double and a sacrifice fly. David Spiller was 2-5 with two RBI’s.

The Stags continue SCIAC play on Friday, April 2 when they travel to Occidental College to face the Tigers. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 PM. They will finish the series with a double-header (11:00 AM, 2:30 AM) on Saturday at CMS.
