Stags Start Fast, But Fall to Bridgewater (VA) Tuesday Afternoon

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team faced a tough Bridgewater College Eagles (VA) team, Tuesday afternoon at Arce Field, falling 14-6.

Freshman IF Jack Witte got the Stags out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning, with a double up the middle to score senior OF William Knowles and take the early 1-0 lead.  Junior IF Scott Witte, flied out to right, to plate his brother Jack Witte and add yet another run pushing the tally to 2-0.

The Eagles (10-2) scored two runs in the top half of the second inning, to tie the game 2-2, then scored five runs in the fourth to jump their lead to 7-2 and didn't look back.  Scott Witte connected on a pitch that sailed over the left field fence for a solo homerun in the bottom of the seventh and finished the day going 1 for 2 and two RBI's at the plate.  Junior IF Brett Watanabe went 2 for 5 and scored a run in the sixth inning.
 
Freshman P Troy Odo started the game and went one and a third innings while fellow Freshman P Samuel Woodman came into the game to throw three innings allowing seven hits and striking out two.

The Stags (2-15) return to action at Arce Field Saturday March 16, to face conference foe, La Verne for a twin bill starting at 11:00 AM.
