CLAREMONT, Calif. – Ready or not, basketball season is
here with the calendar turning to Oct. 15. With that, college
basketball teams across the country, including the
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s basketball team begin practice
Tuesday for the first practice of the 2013-14 season. The Stags are
coming of an 18-8 campaign last season which marked the
program’s 16th winning season in a row and
15th under head coach Ken Scalmanini.
CMS has just about a month of practice before the team’s first game which is on Nov. 15 at San Diego Christian. The team’s first home game is on Nov. 30 against UC Santa Cruz as part of the David Wells Classic.
Of the five starters from last year’s team, CMS returns two starters in senior G Remy Pinson (10.1 ppg, 26 starts, 3.2 assists) and sophomore C Shelby Lane (6.7 ppg., 4.8 rpg., 26 starts). Also returning is junior G Jack Grodahl (12 ppg) who came off the bench in each game and finished second on the team in scoring.
