The CMS golf team rebounded nicely from their showing last week at SCIAC #1 with a resounding victory at SCIAC #2. The Stags shot a 277 (-11) overwhelming the rest of the field at El Prado Golf Course. This score tied the lowest total score in CMS history, posted last season at the CMS Invitational. CMS won by 11 strokes over second place Redlands who shot a 288 (E). Cal Lutheran, La Verne, and Pomona-Pitzer shot scores of 289 (+1), 291 (+3), and 293 (+5) to finish among the top five. Whittier, Occidental, and Chapman rounded out the bottom three scores.
Michael Liu (JR, Tustin [pictured]) earned medalist honors after firing a 66 (-6) to lead the Stags. Jordan Stein (FR, Glencoe, IL) came in third place with a 69 (-3) while Tain Lee (JR, San Juan Capistrano) and Patrick Fujieki (FR, Honolulu, HI) both posted rounds of 71 (-1) to earn fifth place finishes. Robbie Garcia (FR, Pleasanton) shot a 74 (+2) finishing in 18th place while Ryan Irish (SO, Gold River) and Jay Tymkovich (JR, Broomfield, CO) shot rounds of 77 (+5) and 78 (+6).
The Stags plan to build on this momentum at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational hosted by Oglethorpe University on March 18-20.
