Stag Soccer Trample The Sagehens

The CMS Men's Soccer Team (5-2-2, 3-1-2 in SCIAC) dominated cross-street rivals and defending SCIAC Champions Pomona-Pitzer (1-8, 1-5 in SCIAC) Saturday on their way to a 2-0 win at home.

With the Sagehens looking to halt their string of unfavorable results of recent, PP came out determined and battled the Stags in the early goings of the first half. Both teams created chances but it was CMS who got the game's first goal in the 43rd minute just before the halftime break. Right-back Lewis Corson (SR, Greenwich, CT) launched the ball into the attacking third, and after a scramble outside the 18-yard box with the PP goalkeeper and a defender, Jared Bernstein (SO, Los Gatos) came away with the ball and found the far netting of an empty net. His goal proved to be the game-winner.

The Stags continued to dominate in the second half of regulation play but couldn't find their second goal until late in the game. Alex Lichtenberg (JR, Beverly Hills) played a beautiful bending ball into the box off of a free kick and an onrushing Mitchell Skotarczyk (SR, Brea) side-footed the ball past the Sagehen keeper to seal the victory.

Marshall Fisher (SR, Des Moines, IA) and Zach Doran (SO, Albuquerque, NM) led the defense to its fifth shutout of the season. CMS recorded 17 shots while PP hit 11. Ten corner kicks were awarded to the Stags compared to the Sagehens' three.

CMS takes on the Beavers of Caltech (1-6, 1-5 in SCIAC) on Wednesday, October 6th at 7:00 PM at Pritzlaff Field.
