Stags Win SCIAC Tournament Title

CMS won the SCIAC Men's Soccer Tournament for the second straight year with a 1-0 road victory against Redlands on Saturday night.  The Stags improved to 14-3-2 and earned the SCIAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships.  The NCAA bracket will be announced Monday morning.

Daniel Price (FR, Quartz Hill [pictured]) picked an opportune time to score his first collegiate goal netting the game winner with 5:31 remaining in the second half.  He pushed up from his defender position and took a deflected pass and powered the ball past the diving keeper inside the far post.

CMS was the stronger team for much of the game outshooting Redlands 15-9.  Seven of the Stags' shots were on goal versus two for the Bulldogs.  Joe Swartley (SR, Monte Sereno) made two saves for CMS, earned his ninth shutout of the season and lowered his goals against average to 0.52.

CMS and Redlands have played each other at Redlands in all four SCIAC Tournaments including three of the four finals.  Last year CMS won 2-1 to earn its first Tournament title.  The Stags advanced to the NCAA Playoffs where they defeated UC Santa Cruz 2-1 in the first round before falling 2-1 to Whitworth University in the second round.
