CMS Stags Soccer Defeats Hendrix College 3-2
The Stags hosted Hendrix College, a D3 opponent from Conway, Arkansas, Friday afternoon on Pritzlaff Field. The home side started the game quickly with immediate pressure on the Warriors backline, which led to a corner kick eight minutes into the game. Rodrigo Bravo-Benitez took the corner and swung in a high curling cross that found senior captain, Alex Lichtenberg's head for
the Stags first goal of the contest. Unfortunately, the Stags got a bit complacent after the goal and preceded to give up two goals before the half.
After a rousing halftime speech by assistant coach, Ryan Fahey, the Stags came out in the second half with a renewed energy. The Stags dominated play but could not find the net until the 87th minute when senior Tony Garcia hit a hard shot from 18 yards out that the Hendrix keeper saved but spilled the rebound which junior forward Harrison Doyle kicked into the net. The winner came one minute later when freshman, Jacob Bishop (pictured), took matters into his own by dribbling past two defenders and hitting a low near post shot that found the back of the net. The win improved the Stags to 5-1 vs. D3 opponents.
