Stags Improve To 3-1 in SCIAC With Win Over Poets
CMS shutout Whittier 4-0 on Saturday afternoon to improve their SCIAC record to 3-1. This was the teams' first match up since the Stags beat the Poets in overtime of the 2010 SCIAC tournament semifinals. Unlike last year's close contest, CMS scored early and often with the first goal coming in the third minute. Eric Bean capitalized on a poor clearance from Whittier, which he struck first time past the Whittier keeper, David Diaz. The Stags scored again in the 19th minute when David Taylor beat his defender and sent in an early cross which freshman Jake Bishop headed into the back of the net. The goals kept coming when Sam Ullman slotted a beautiful ball to Jared Bernstein who smashed it home between Diaz' legs in the 65th minute. Five minutes later the Stags were awarded a penalty kick for a tackle from behind on Ullman in the 18 yard box. Ullman converted the penalty to put the Stags up 4-0. Stags keeper Ricky Doar (pictured) had the shutout with four saves. The win puts the Stags at 6-2 overall.
CMS plays La Verne on Wednesday night 7:00. The game will be at Damien High School.
