CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's soccer team beat UC Santa Cruz 4-1 on Saturday afternoon on Pritzlaff Field. The Stags scored early and often in non-conference matchup.
The Stags, sitting on 1st place in SCIAC and a 10-5-1 overall record, entered the game hungry for to play a non-conference opponent. The game proved to be an excellent way for the Stags to gear up for their last two SCIAC contests in the regular season.
Just a few minutes later, freshman William Cresap scored for CMS marking his first goal on the season and in his collegiate career. Sophomore Salar Hajimirsadeghi assisted Cresap in what eventually was the game winning goal.
The Stags led 3-0 before UC Santa Cruz was able to convert one of their 14 shots into a goal. Brock Kobayashi scored for the Banana Slugs to make the scoreboard read 3-1.
With less than ten minutes remaining Contreras scored a goal of his own for his third on the season.
Sophomore keeper Joseph Mondello had four saves on the night letting only one goal through. His GAA is now 0.60. Freshman Elijiah Lichtenberg and Abdi each had a team high of four shots during the game.
The Stags finished the game with a 4-1 lead and improved their overall record to 12-5-1. CMS faces their final SCIAC opponents in La Verne on Monday (10/28) at 7pm and Whittier on Saturday (11/2) also at 7pm.
