The men's and women's swimming & diving teams both won at Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday giving CMS a four-year sweep of their rivals for the first time in history. The men won 170-72 and the women won 182-55. Both teams are 5-0 in SCIAC competition. The women are 7-1 overall and the men are 6-1.
The Athenas continued their streak of winning every individual swimming event against SCIAC competition. Danielle Peebles (SO, La Mesa) and Lisal Smith (SR, Davis) each won two individual events. Peebles won the 500 and 1650 freestyles (and anchored the winning 400 free relay) and Smith won the 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke. Monica Brazelton (FR, Santa Clara) won the 100 freestyle and was on the winning 400 free relay. Single event winners included Monica Emanuel (JR, Walnut Creek, 1 meter diving), Jordan Stewart (SO, Minnetonka, MN, 200 free), Lauren Kristensen (SR, Saugus, 50 free), Amy Fuller (SR, Burlingame, 400 IM), Kat Shultis (SR, Mountain View, 3 meter diving)and Katie Oi (FR, Bothell, 100 fly). Kevyn Klein (JR, Northridge) and Quirina Mitchell (FR, Kingsburg) were also on the winning 400 free relay.
Double individual winners for the Stags were Mark Emanuel (SR, Walnut Creek) and Matt Gannon (SO, Valencia). Emanuel won 1 and 3 meter diving and Gannon won the 100 backstroke and the 400 IM (and also led off the winning 200 medley relay). John Sloat (SO, Lafayette) won the 50 free and anchored both the winning relays. Ryan Toohey (SO, Rocklin) won the 100 breaststroke and was on the winning medley relay. Alex Hill (JR, Phoenix, AZ) won the 100 free. Other members of the winning relays included J.P. Wright (SR, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, medley), Scott Sanford (FR, Newport Beach, free), Shea Manning (SR, Fairfax Station, VA, free) and Tyler Owens (JR, Camarillo, free).
This week the Athenas will swim at home against Loyola Marymount on Friday, January 26 at 2:00. Both teams will compete at home on Saturday, January 27 at 10:30 against Cal Lutheran.
