CMS Qualifies Nine for NCAA Swimming Championships

Nine CMS swimmers have qualified for the 2009 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships to be held at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center, March 18-21, 2009.  The seven Athenas and two Stags will compete in a total of 25 individual events and five relays over the four-day meet.  The following student-athletes will represent CMS at Nationals:

Katie Bilotti:  100 Backstroke, 100 Butterfly, 50 Freestyle

Carliann Brashier:  1650 Freestyle, 500 Freestyle, 200 Freestyle

Whitney Dawson:  1650 Freestyle, 500 Freestyle, 200 Freestyle

Emma Jones:  100 Freestyle, 200 Freestyle

Annie Perizzolo:  100 Breaststroke, 200 Breaststroke, 200 IM

Jenni Rinker:  50 Freestyle, 100 Backstroke

Jordan Stewart:  400 IM, 200 IM, 200 Butterfly

Women's 200 Medley Relay, 400 Medley Relay, 200 Free Relay, 400 Free Relay, 800 Free Relay

 

Nick Ostreim:  100 Backstroke, 200 Backstroke, 500 Freestyle

Vincent Pai:  100 Breaststroke, 200 Breaststroke, 200 IM

 

Additionally, CMS had 8 individual "B-cut" provisional qualifiers who ultimately were not selected to the meet.  B-cut performers for the Stags were Austin Hallett (200 IM, 400 IM, 200 Freestyle, 100 Butterfly, 200 Backstroke), Vince Schiavoni (100 Breaststroke), Ryan Toohey (200 IM, 100 Breaststroke, 200 Breaststroke.  Provisional qualifiers for the Athenas were Tessa Dover (200 Backstroke), Danielle Peebles (500 Freestyle, 1650 Freestyle), Elica Sharifnia (100 Breaststroke), Amy Tresenrider (200 Backstroke), Heidi Wolfgruber (400 IM).  Each of those swimmers will be under consideration for Academic All-American honors, when the CSCAA announces its AAA team later this Spring.

"Both the Stags and Athenas had fantastic SCIAC Championship meets and we're excited to be taking a substantial team to NCAA's" said Head Coach Charlie Griffiths.  "Over half the team has NCAA experience and it will be fun to get back into the National environment.  NCAA's has been the focus and end-goal for the group throughout the year and we are looking forward to racing."
