CLAREMONT, Calif. – With the first meet of the season set for Saturday, Oct. 26 at UC San Diego, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s and men’s swimming & diving teams practice season is in full swing. The Athenas and Stags hit the pool for their first practice of the 2013-14 season on Monday, Sept. 30.
“We’re excited to get started with official practices,” said head coach Charlie Griffiths. “The first month of practice is the perfect time to make technique improvements, in addition to creating a training base. Our veterans are a hungry group right now and I’m enjoying seeing the newcomers adapt to our expectations.”
Both teams are coming off SCIAC Championship seasons in 2013. For the Athenas, 2013 marked the program’s 11th-straight conference title while the Stags won their sixth in a row. The Stags also advanced to the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships in Texas and earned a 10th place finish.
So far this season there are 26 male and 29 female swimmers practicing, plus three male divers and five female divers. A few more team members will be added after the completion of the men’s water polo season and when some juniors return from off-campus study programs.
