Settles Earns USTA / ITA Sectional Award

Head men's tennis coach Paul Settles has won the Unites States Tennis Association (USTA) / Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) 2011 Campus and Community Outreach Award for the Southern California section. Settles is one of two award winners in the section, and among fourteen nationwide. Settles was also the recipient of the USTA / ITA Community Service Award and Campus Recreation Award in 2006.

The USTA/ITA National Campus & Community Outreach Awards are presented each year to college coaches who provide  leadership roles in increasing tennis participation throughout their communities, both on and off campus. Among the USTA/ITA partner programs available to assist coaches in giving back are Campus Kids' Days, Campus QuickStart, Campus Showdowns and Tennis On Campus.

CMS hosted Campus Kids Days at the 2011 NCAA Tennis Championships and USTA / ITA West Regionals, providing tennis instruction to over 150 local elementary school children. A Campus QuickStart Play Day in June introduced tennis to several 10 and unders using age appropriate equipment. CMS hosted its fifth annual Campus Showdown in October, and served as the  site for the 2011 Tennis On Campus SoCal Championships.
