CLAREMONT, Calif. – Ranked No. 5 in the preseason Division III polls, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team gets its season underway this week with four matches over the weekend. The Stags open up the season on Friday, Feb. 22 by hosting Arizona Christian at 9 a.m. and then Brandeis at 1 p.m. On Saturday the Stags host Bates at 9:30 a.m. and Vanguard at 3 p.m.

CMS is coming off a 2012 season that saw them advance all the way to the NCAA Division III Championship Quarterfinals. It was the third-straight year that CMS advanced at least to the quarterfinals, seventh-straight season that the team participated in the NCAA Championships and also seventh-straight SCIAC Championship.

The Stags return a deep team in 2013 highlighted by sophomore Warren Wood, the 2012 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Rookie of the Year. Senior Alex Lane is also one of the top returners for CMS. Sophomore transfer Joe Dorn, a Division I transfer from Vanderbilt is expected to make an impact toward the top of the team's lineup as well while Skyler Butts highlights the freshman class.

Once again this season, the Stags have a schedule loaded with nationally ranked teams. Five SCIAC teams including CMS are ranked in the top-26 nationally, including four in the top-16. The Stags also host matches against nationally-ranked Bates, Trinity, Middlebury and Williams to name a few non-conference matches against top-25 teams on this year's schedule.
