ITA tabs four from Stags Tennis as All-Americans
With four individuals being selected as Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Americans, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s tennis team tied with two other schools (Middlebury and Trinity) with the most selections to the ITA All-America Teams, the ITA announced on June 11.

Ellison named ITA West Region and National Assistant Coach of the Year
Prior to the NCAA Division III men's tennis championship match on May 21, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its national award winners and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s tennis assistant coach William Ellison has been named the National Assistant Coach of the Year in addition to earning West Region Assistant Coach of the Year honors earlier this month.

Men's tennis finishes as D-III national runner-up
In the final match of the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championships, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps lost a heartbreaker to second ranked Amherst 5-3. With the win, Amherst becomes national champions for the second time since 2011 and completes their season with a 36-3 overall record. CMS becomes the runner up for the seventh time in program history and second consecutive year, and finishes with the best overall record in program history of 30-2.

CMS advances to NCAA title match with win over Middlebury
In the semifinals of the NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Championships, the top ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s tennis team fought their way to a 5-2 victory over Middlebury on May 20 at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center. Middlebury is now 21-4 and plays Trinity on May 21 at 10:00 a.m. in the third place match. CMS improves to 30-1 on the season and advances to the finals for the second straight year in a row where they will face Amherst on May 21 at 11:00 a.m. at Biszantz Family Tennis Center.

In the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Championships, top ranked CMS fought their way to a 5-3 win over Johns Hopkins on May 19 at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center. CMS improves their overall record to 29-1 and advances to the semifinals where they will play Middlebury College on May 20 at 11:00 a.m. while Johns Hopkins concludes their season with an overall record of 20-5.

Men's tennis claims SCIAC title for 9th straight season
#1 CMS Stags Tennis won its ninth consecutive SCIAC title with an emphatic 9-0 win over #10 Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday at the Matador Courts of Cal State Northridge. The SCIAC tournament title marked the Stags' 85th straight win in conference without a loss, a streak dating back to 2005.

One of the best of Division III met one of the best of Division I on Tuesday in Westwood, as #3 UCLA defeated #3 CMS 4-0. The Stags returned to Claremont in the afternoon to defeat Pacific University 9-0, improving their record to 15-1 on the season.

Weather and competition formidable at Pacific Coast Doubles
Six doubles teams represented CMS Stags Tennis at the 125th Annual Pacific Coast Doubles Tournament in La Jolla this past weekend. CMS finished with a collective record of 8-6, as five of six teams advanced to the third round in a field made up of predominantly Division I and open teams.

Sophomore Skyler Butts (Santa Ana, CA) became the second singles player in CMS Tennis history to reach the final of the USTA / ITA Division III National Championships. CMS' Skyler Butts (So. - Santa Ana, CA) claimed the USTA / ITA West Region singles title, defeating Whittier's David Konstantinov 7-6(5), 6-3 on Sunday at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center. Seeded eighth, Butts won six matches on the weekend, including three matches against fellow teammates, to give CMS its third straight USTA / ITA West Region singles title, and fourth in the last five years.

The Biszantz Family Tennis Center at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges will serve as host site for a USTA / ITA One Day Campus Showdown Saturday, September 21, featuring a compass draw of 32 collegiate, junior, and open male players.
