Lonzo Hired As Water Polo Coach
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps announces the hiring of Greg Lonzo as the Interim Head Men's and Women's Water Polo Coach and Visiting Instructor of Physical Education. Lonzo is a 2002 graduate of Pepperdine University with a degree in Business Administration. He was a four-year varsity player and is the career leader in goals scored at Pepperdine. He was a three-time All-American and runner-up for National Player of the Year in 2002.
"Not only am I excited for the opportunity to coach at a college level, I am also excited for the challenges of recruiting, developing student-athletes, and representing the Colleges in the community," stated Lonzo, who has served as the Head Coach at the Riverside Water Polo Club for the past two years. He coached both an 18-under and a 16-under team. He previously served two years as an assistant coach at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. He also worked in over 20 water polo camps representing Pepperdine.
"I am pleased that Greg was able to join us," Director of Athletics Michael Sutton said. "We are fortunate that we know him and that he knows our program from his time as an assistant here. This should make the transition easier on both sides. Our teams are very enthusiastic about Greg's hiring and have high expectations for this year."
