Season Ends At Regionals With Loss To Redlands
TYLER, Texas – For the second time in three games at the 2013 NCAA Division III Softball Championships, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team struggled to get its offense going as they lost 2-0 to Redlands on Saturday afternoon at UT-Tyler Ballpark. CMS ends its season at 33-13, three wins more than the team's 2012 campaign, which also ended at the Texas-Tyler Regional.
The Athenas best scoring opportunity of the game came in the top of the first inning. With one out, senior infield Harmony Palmer and freshman infielder Katie Savard put together back-to-back singles off of Redlands' starting pitcher Kayla Uphold, who allowed just four hits with six strikeouts in the game. Uphold then retired the next two batters to end the threat.
In the bottom of the inning, Redlands (36-11) got both of its runs off of CMS starting pitcher Hayley Schultz. Nikoli Sharp came through with a RBI double down the left field line to score Grace Rose. Vicki King gave Redlands an insurance run with a run-scoring single to right.
After the two hits by CMS in the first inning, CMS only managed two hits for the rest of the game against Uphold, as she retired CMS in order four times.
Sophomore left fielder Marie Bradvica and junior infielder Megan Latta added hits for CMS. Schultz ends her sophomore year with 26 wins.
