The women's basketball team beat Caltech 73-41 on Saturday evening to give coach Jodie Burton her 200th career SCIAC victory. She is the first women's coach in conference history to achieve the milestone (Gary Smith [Redlands] is the only men's coach known to have achieved the milestone. He accomplished the mark in 2002). Now in her 27th season at CMS, Burton's career SCIAC record now stands at 200-100. Already the leader in conference wins among women's coaches, current or retired (second is 130), she has more SCIAC wins than six of the other seven schools in the conference. Her overall record is 432-235 with her victory total placing her 15th in Division III history.
Lana Young (SR, Honolulu, HI) led CMS with 20 points. Jocelyn Woolsey (SO, Piedmont) led in assists with four and shared the rebound lead of eight with Jennifer Osgood (FR, Vashon, WA). Young and Camille Sheffield (FR, Gambier, OH) each had three steals and Osgood had four blocks. Lindsay King led Caltech with 15 points.
CMS is now 8-7 overall and 3-1 in SCIAC play (t2nd). Their next game is at Whittier on Thursday, January 25 at 7:30.
