CMS concluded its non-conference schedule on Monday with a 76-44 win at Southwestern College in Phoenix, AZ. The Athenas improved to 7-4 overall, a dramatic improvement over last year's 1-9 preseason.
CMS was led by Jennifer Osgood (JR, Vashon, WA) who had a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Aria Krumwiede (FR, Scottsdale, AZ) added 15 points and five assists. The Athenas dominated on the boards, outrebounding Southwestern 59-24. With a commanding 43-20 lead at halftime, CMS was able to play all 17 players in uniform with 14 scoring points.
The Athenas begin SCIAC play on Thursday, January 10 at 7:30 against Caltech. The home game will be only the team's third of the season. CMS will be looking to improve on last year's rare down year in conference play when the team finished 3-11 (t6th) after recording double digit SCIAC wins for the previous five years.
Krumwiede leads the team in scoring this season with 9.7 points per game. She also leads the team in assists (23) and three-pointers (19). Osgood leads the team in rebounding (6.6/g) and blocks (10). Grace Beck (FR, Santa Cruz) leads in steals (19) and is tied for second on the team in rebounding (5.5/g) despite being a 5-7 guard.
CMS has a host of new faces this year with eight freshmen and two transfers joining seven returning players. Cameron Hanson (JR, Rockville, MD) returns after missing all of last season with a knee injury and Camille Sheffield (JR, Gambier, OH) returns after missing the first five games studying abroad.
