CMS beat Pomona-Pitzer 70-59 on Saturday night to complete a season sweep of the series. This is the sixth time in seven years that the Athenas have swept both games. CMS improved to 13-10 overall and 6-6 in SCIAC while Pomona-Pitzer dropped to 6-16 and 2-10.
CMS hit six first half three-pointers to erase an early five-point Pomona-Pitzer lead as the teams traded leads throughout the half. Aria Krumwiede (FR, Scottsdale, AZ) had 11 points and three of the three's in the half and the teams were tied at 26 entering the break.
The Athenas broke the game open with a 20-4 run over the first eight minutes of the second half and never led by less than eight points for the remainder of the game. Krumwiede had 11 points in the second half as well, but the story of the half was Cameron Hanson (JR, Rockville, MD [pictured]). Hanson recorded a double-double in the second half alone with 15 points and 13 rebounds. She ended the night with 17 points and a career-high 19 rebounds.
Krumwiede led the team with 22 points and added five rebounds and four assists. Jennifer Osgood (JR, Vashon, WA) and Grace Beck (FR, Santa Cruz) added seven points each and Sasha Goldkorn (SR, Moreno Valley) added four points and a team-high six assists.
CMS hosts La Verne on Thursday, February 19 at 7:30. This will be the team's final home game of the season.
