Athenas Dominate Sagehens To Finish Third In SCIAC

The CMS Women's Basketball Team soundly defeated Pomona-Pitzer 70-47 on Tuesday during Pomona-Pitzer's Senior Night to finish third in the SCIAC.  Being the last regular season conference game it was a must needed win for the Athenas to insure a spot in the SCIAC Tournament. CMS' determination and drive was evident from the starting tip-off.  The Athenas came out strong from the beginning, combining full court defense and quick offensive plays, and continued to play solid basketball for forty minutes.

Madeline Barnes (FR, Kenmore, WA) [pictured] came off the bench for the Athenas and was the leading scorer for both teams with 18 points, while Kalika Tullock (JR, Middleton, ID) and Taylon Johnson (JR, Prairie Village, KS) had 13 and 10 points respectively.  Frannie Hemmelgarn (SO, Seattle, WA), who had 10 rebounds and four steals, led the CMS defense.

The Athenas shot 51.9% from the field for the game and kept the Sagehens to just 35.5%.

With a 3rd place finish in the SCIAC, CMS will play Redlands at Redlands on Friday, February 25th in the SCIAC Tournament Semifinal match.  The winner of the game will play the winner of the La Verne vs. Occidental Semifinal game on Saturday.
