Fall schedule begins for Athenas with fourth place finish at Embry-Riddle Invite
PRESCOTT, Ariz. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team finished fourth overall out of eight teams with a three-round team score of 953 at the Embry-Riddle Invitational on Sept. 29-30, at the par-72 Talking Rock Golf Course. Cal State San Marcos won the tournament with a score of 922 followed by Redlands and Cal Lutheran in second and third, respectively.
Junior Maya Reddy finished first for CMS placing fourth out of 40 golfers in the tournament. She had an average score of 77 over the three rounds – comfortably below the average individual round score of 84 for the tournament. She finished with a 14-over par score of 230 and had a team-low round of 76 in both the first and second rounds.
Taylor Kain-Godey joined Reddy in the top-10 as she tied for eighth place with a score of 236 followed by junior Marissa Suehiro who tied for 15th with a score 243, Lindsay Slocum who tied for 20th with a score of 245, and sophomore Caroline Belmont who placed 25th with a score of 252. As a team, CMS averaged a score of 317 per round, 13 strokes better than the tournament average.
The Embry Riddle Invitational was the first of two fall tournaments for the Athenas in preparation for their spring season. The team's next tournament is the Birdies For Breast Cancer tournament at the Oak Quarry Golf Course on Oct. 7 and 8.
