CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's soccer team lost to UC Santa Cruz 1-0 on Friday afternoon. The lone goal of the game was scored in the first half for the Banana Slugs.
Following a corner kick by sophomore M Rika Goto, a freshman M Megan Carey knocked in the loose ball to put UC Santa Cruz on the scoreboard. The goal was scored in the 13th minute on this Friday the 13th.
The game remained scoreless for the remaining 76 minutes despite the relentless attacking by CMS. The Athenas totaled 13 shots during the game to UC Santa Cruz's nine.
The most promising of the Athenas' drives came in the middle of the second half. In the midst of mayhem within the box, the Athenas scored but the goal was called back because of an offside call on CMS.
