A new record for CMS in national D-III Directors’ Cup standings
By ending the school year in 11th place in the 2014-15 NCAA Division III Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup final standings which were released on June 4, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athletics secured its highest finish in the standings in program history.

Over the final few weeks of the 2014-15 school year, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athletic Department, along with Claremont McKenna College (CMC), Harvey Mudd College (HMC) and Scripps College (SCR) all announced their end-of-year athletic awards. Top-seeded CMS taken down by Redlands in SCIAC semi-final
In a semi-final game of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) women’s soccer tournament, Redlands beat Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 1-0. After a scoreless first half, the Bulldogs broke the tie with a goal in the 68th minute. Redlands advances to the SCIAC Tournament final to face Cal Lutheran on Saturday, Nov. 8.

SCIAC Women’s Soccer Postseason Tournament Preview
By winning the sixth regular season conference championship in program history, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s soccer team earned the top seed into the four-team SCIAC Postseason Tournament which gets underway on Wednesday, Nov. 5.

Athenas win sixth SCIAC Championship
The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s soccer team secured their sixth SCIAC title despite losing the final game of the regular season. The Athenas (13-6-1, 10-4 SCIAC) tied their record of most conference wins, most recently in 2009 when they also won the regular season championship.

CMS Women's Soccer makes SportsCenter Neighborhood Top Plays (10/29/14)
ESPN's SportsCenter included the game-winning goal by Samantha Kunz from the 1-0 overtime win over La Verne in its Neighborhood Top-10 Plays on Oct. 29, 2014. Since SportsCenter included CMS, we do forgive them for saying that La Verne won 1-0. The game was played on Oct. 18 at CMS.

Athenas shut out Chapman, will play for SCIAC Title on Saturday
With the 2-0 shutout of Chapman on Wednesday evening, CMS secured a top-two finish in the conference and the will host a semi-final game in the SCIAC next week. CMS currently sits in first place in SCIAC standings but the final seeding for the tournament will not be determined until after Saturday’s games.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and La Verne played 99 scoreless minutes but in the 100th minute just before the end of the first overtime, Samantha Kunz scored the game-winner for CMS on a direct kick from 30 yards out. The goal gave CMS a 1-0 win over La Verne.

Home-opener ends in double overtime 0-0 draw for CMS against Lewis & Clark
Five matches into the season and the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s soccer team has shut out its opponents four times, allowing just one goal. The team’s excellent defensive play continued on Saturday, but the offense could not find the back of the net, as CMS and Lewis & Clark played a double overtime, 0-0 draw on Sept. 13 at Pritzlaff Field in the home-opener for CMS. With the tie, CMS is now 3-1-1, while Lewis & Clark is 1-1-2.

As women’s and men’s soccer, football, volleyball, men’s water polo, and men’s and women’s cross country report and start training there are over 190 athletes hoping to make a CMS athletic team and build on the stellar year that CMS athletics had last year.

– For the fifth time in program history, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s soccer team is heading to the NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Championship. Cal Lutheran entered the SCIAC Postseason Tournament as the top seed with just two conference losses. None of that mattered on Saturday night in the conference tournament championship match as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s soccer team defeated top-seeded Cal Lutheran 1-0 at Rolland Stadium to earn the SCIAC’s automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Championships. It is the Athenas’ first trip to the NCAA Championships and first SCIAC Postseason Tournament championship since 2009.

Katie Hawley is a Ladera Ranch 10 year old soccer player and neighbor to senior co-captain Nicole Sady-Kennedy. Katie was recently diagnosed with stage 3 neuroblastoma, a common childhood cancer. She is undergoing chemo therapy and despite the diagnosis and treatment, continues to play soccer with her So Cal Blues Soccer team.
