CMS qualified six women for the NCAA Division III Championships which will take place March 8-10 at the University of Houston. Individual qualifiers included Lauren Kristensen (SR, Saugus) in the 100 freestyle, Danielle Peebles (SO, La Mesa) in the 1650 freestyle, Lisal Smith (SR, Davis) in the 200 and 400 individual medleys and Jordan Stewart (SO, Minnetonka, MN) in the 400 individual medley. Three relays also qualified: the 200 [Monica Brazelton (FR, Santa Clara), Smith, Kevyn Klein (JR, Northridge), Kristensen], 400 [Brazelton, Peebles, Klein, Kristensen] and 800 [Stewart, Brazelton, Peebles, Kristensen] free relays.
Individual qualifiers can compete in up to three individual events at the meet. Smith will also swim the 200 breaststroke, Peebles the 200 and 500 freestyles, Stewart the 200 individual medley and 100 freestyle and Kristensen the 50 freestyle. Relay-only swimmers can compete in events in which they achieved qualifying marks so Klein will compete in the 50 and 100 freestyles. CMS will also compete in the 200 and 400 medley relays with a team of Smith, Kristensen, Klein and Brazelton.
CMS has placed in the top 11 twice in the past three years at the Championships. We finished 11th in 2004 and a team-best ninth in 2006.
