CMS Dominates Rivalry Meet

The CMS men's and women's swimming and diving teams scored a pair of emphatic victories over Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday, January 26.  Under sunny skies and with the snow-capped Mount Baldy in the background at CMS's Axelrood Pool, the Athenas won 171 to 68 and the Stags topped P-P 154.5 to 88.5.

The Athenas won 12 of the 13 events in what was the fastest meet in the SCIAC so far this season.  Two Athenas scored three victories on the day.  First-year Jenni Rinker (Eagle River, AK) led off the pool-record setting 400 yard medley relay and also claimed victories in the 200 freestyle and 200 backstroke.  Sophomore Monica Brazelton (Santa Clara) swam the anchor leg of the 400 medley relay, led off the 400 free relay and won the 100 freestyle.

The swim of the day came in the 200 breaststroke, as first-year Annie Perizzolo (Aurora, CO) set a pool record, won by over eight seconds, and notched a strong NCAA qualifying time with a 2:22.61.

            Monica Emanuel (SR, Walnut Creek) - 1 meter diving

            Clair Geary (SO, Pelham, MA) - 3 meter diving

            Carliann Brashier (FR, Highlands Ranch, CO) - 1650 free, 500 free

            Kevyn Klein (SR, Northridge) - 50 free

            Chrysanthia Cheung-Lau (FR, Ontario) - 200 IM

            400 medley relay- Rinker, Perizzolo, Cheung-Lau, Brazelton

            400 freestyle relay- Brazelton, Danielle Peebles (JR, La Mesa), Jordan Stewart (JR, Minntonka, MN), Klein

The Stags won eight events.  Freshman Ryan Kristensen (Saugus) performed a lifetime best in the 50 yard freestyle with a 21.63 and also anchored the victorious 400 freestyle relay.  Matt Gannon (JR, Valencia) and Andrew Cosentino (FR, Greenwich, CT) were also double winners, with Gannon taking the 200 IM and swimming backstroke on the 400 medley relay.  Cosentino anchored the medley and led off the free relay.

Garrett Smith (FR, Goleta) - 3 meter diving

          Nick Ostreim (FR, Phoenix, AZ) - 200 backstroke

          Andrew Kishino (FR, Riverside) - 500 free

          400 medley relay- Gannon, Jake Rowley (SO, San Gabriel), Michael Chiu (FR, Northridge), Cosentino

          400 freestyle relay- Cosentino, Alex Hill (SR, Phoenix, AZ), Chiu, Kristensen

Both the Stags and Athenas will take their 5-0 conference records to Thousand Oaks on Saturday, February 2, where CMS will face California Lutheran University in a SCIAC dual meet.  Diving begins at 10:00 a.m. and swimming will begin at 11:00 a.m.
