16 Swimmers Qualify For NCAA Championships
Eight Athenas and eight Stags will represent CMS at the 2011 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships at the University of Tennessee on March 23-26. The 16 athletes are the most participants CMS has had in one year.
The Athenas earned a program-best fifth place finish in 2010 and are looking for their sixth straight top 15 finish. SCIAC Swimmer of the Year Michele Kee leads the Athena entries. She is seeded second in the 200 fly, third in the 200 individual medley and 19th in the 100 free. Katie Bilotti is seeded sixth in the 100 fly and Tessa Dover is seeded 12th and 13th in the 100 and 200 back respectively. Bilotti will also be competing in the 50 free and 100 back and Dover will also swim the 200 IM. Helen Liu (50 free, 100 fly), Jenni Rinker (50 free, 100 & 200 back), Elsa Cheng (100 fly, 100 & 200 back) and Emma Jones (100 free, 100 breast) also qualifed individually.
Four Athena relays qualified for the meet. The CMS 200 and 400 medley relays are seeded fifth and fourth respectively while the 200 and 400 free relays are seeded fourth and ninth. Kristie Howard is a relay-only invitee and will swim on the 200 freestyle relay.
The Stags will be led by Vincent Pai. He is seeded seventh in both the 100 and 200 breast and will also swim the 200 IM. Blake Weber is seeded eighth in the 200 yard individual medley and will also swim the 200 free and 200 back. Nick Ostreim is seeded 13th in the 200 back and will also swim the 200 free and 100 back. Austin Hallett (200 IM, 100 back), Jordan Lieberman (100 & 200 fly) and Sean Fitzgerald (50 free) also qualified individually.
Four Stag relays also qualified. The 200 and 400 medley relay are seeded 14th and 12th respectively while the 400 and 800 free relays are 12th and 15th. Relay-only invitees included Devin Bowers and Jeff McNerney. Bowers will swim on the 400 medley and both free relays. McNerney will swim on the 400 free relay.
The meet will be hosted by Beloit College and the College of Wooster at the Allen Jones Aquatic Center in Knoxville, TN. Preliminaries begin at 10:00 and finals at 6:30 each day.
