The Athenas of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps defended their home court on Monday, in a 9-0 romp of the Trinity Tigers.
CMS opened the match with a sweep in doubles. However, for some time it looked as if the Athenas could have gone into singles competition with a 1-2 deficit. However, both teams outlasted their opponents (9-7 and 8-6).

In singles competition, Huang was first in the clubhouse for the CMS. The sophomore from Temple City retired Thavindra Ekanyake, the #39 ranked player n the nation, in straight sets 6-2, 6-0. The match clinching fifth point was scored at number six by Smrecek (6-2, 6-3). At number one, reigning national champion Kristin Lim fought of her latest challenger. Tigers Mackenzie Knoop pushed Lim to a tiebreaker in the first set. But the junior from Honolulu, HI, prevailed 7-6, 6-3.
