Pair Of Athenas Selected For Singles And Doubles Tennis Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Senior Kristin Lim and freshman Caroline Ward have been selected to represent the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team in the singles and doubles competition of the 2013 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships the NCAA announced Wednesday. The individual and doubles championships will take place May 23-25 at Stowe Stadium in Kalamazoo, Mich.

Lim is the lone Athena and one of just three SCIAC singles players to compete in the singles competition, while Lim and Ward are one of just two SCIAC doubles teams in the field, the other being Samantha Chao and Kara Wang from Pomona-Pitzer. The individual championships shall consist of 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams. The selection of teams and individuals for the championships are based on win-loss record, strength of schedule, and eligibility and availability of student-athletes.

Ward and Lim were each part of doubles teams during the regular season ranked in the top-6 in the West Region, as Ward was part of the sixth ranked doubles team and Lim was part of the third ranked doubles team. Only toward the end of the regular season did the two begin playing No. 1 singles together. Lim is the No. 1 ranked singles player in the region not having lost a match in 2013.
