PASADENA, Calif. – Senior Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis player Kristin Lim has been selected as the SCIAC Female Athlete of the Week for the week of May 28. This is the second SCIAC Female Athlete of the Week selection for Lim this season.
Lim led the Athenas to a fourth place finish at the NCAA Championships and then finished second in the singles and doubles championships. She went 3-2 in singles and doubles as CMS beat Chicago 5-1 in the quarters before falling to Williams and Amherst in the semis and third place match respectively. Lim, who was seeded first in singles, won her first round match 6-1, 6-1, her round of 16 match 6-1, 6-0, her quarterfinal against the sixth seed 6-3, 6-1 and her semifinal against the third seed and defending champion 6-4, 6-4.
Lim and freshman Caroline Ward, who were also seeded first, won their round of 16 match 6-1, 6-0, their quarterfinal 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 and their semifinal 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. Lim lost in the final to second seeded Lok-Sze Leung of Middlebury 6-1, 6-3. Lim and Ward lost in the final to third seeded Jordan Brewer/Gabby Devlin of Amherst 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (6). All of Lim's career losses in the NCAA singles and doubles tournaments have been to the eventual champions.
The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference was established in 1915. The league is currently comprised of nine private colleges and universities in Southern California: California Institute of Technology, California Lutheran University, Chapman University, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges, University of La Verne, Occidental College, Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, University of Redlands, and Whittier College. The conference recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly and annual basis.
