The CMS Volleyball team won its 5th consecutive conference match with a commanding win over the Occidental Tigers Friday night at Ducey Gym. Celebrating their final home contest of the year, the Athenas honored the seniors from both teams preceding the match. CMS was in control from the opening points, going ahead 21-9 in game 1 on route to a 30-11 win. Switching to a 6-2 offense in games 2 and 3, the team utilized senior right side attackers, Lizzie Balch (CMC, Louisville CO) and Collette Hooper (CMC, Bellevue WA) and won game 2, 30-24. CMS again controlled the tempo in game 3. Up 28-13, the Athenas brought in senior outside hitter, Alicia Freeman ( CMC, Santa Barbara CA). Out sick for much of the week, a recuperating Freeman served an ace, then contributed to great defensive play to finally close the match, 30-15. Offensively, the Athenas were led by middle blockers, Camille Butts (Sr. SCR, Ontario CA) and Helena Bottemiller (Jr. CMC, Burien WA) who notched 11 and 15 kills, respectively and combined for 5 blocks in the three game contest. The Athenas are 5-0 in the second round of SCIAC play heading into Tuesday night's matchup with #6 nationally ranked University of La Verne.
