CLAREMONT, CA -- The CMS Athenas (8-11, 1-0 SCIAC) started their first SCIAC game of the season out strong, and held their own throughout the game to earn a 8-5 win over the Whittier Poets on April 3rd.
The Athenas came in with a solid game plan and really wanted to be able to adapt to Whittier’s play. Starting out with a bang, the Athenas were up 3-0 after the first quarter. As the game continued, CMS’s ability to defend Whittier’s drives really showed as well as their ability to come together as a team even after Whittier started to fight back.
They ended the game 8-5, including 3 goals each from Kristyn Ross (SR, Woodland Hills, CA [pictured right]) and Abigayle Lin (SR, Honolulu, HI [pictured left]) and one goal each from Jenny Ward (JR, Davis, CA) and Jessica Palmer (SR, Sacramento CA), and 12 saves by Abigail Woodruff (JR, Davis CA).
The Athenas are 1-0 in SCIAC play and will face Cal Tech at home on April 7.
