  • CMS Athletics announces Hall of Fame Class of 2014

    A group of five Claremont-Mudd-Scripps athletic greats have been selected as inductees into the CMS Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2014, Michael Sutton ’76, Director of Athletics, William B. Arce Professor and George R. Roberts Fellow has announced.
  • Four Athenas named as All-Americans for second straight year

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s water polo team had an impressive 17-win season in 2014 and finished second at the SCIAC Championships. With that, for the second-consecutive year, there were four Athenas named to the 2014 Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-American Teams, the association announced.

    After a strong year and a second place finish in the SCIAC Championships, senior Candace Filippelli was named the SCIAC Player of the Year with senior Alex Toohey and junior Allison Hu earning All-SCIAC First Team honors and senior Alyssa Filippelli named to the All-SCIAC Second Team.

    In a low-scoring match with the SCIAC championship on the line, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s water polo team came up short in a 7-4 loss to Pomona-Pitzer in the finals of the SCIAC Women’s Water Polo Championships Sunday at Whittier’s Slade Aquatics Center.

    Holding on to a one goal lead at halftime, the No. 2 seed Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s water polo team pulled away in the second half behind four scores from senior driver Alex Toohey to defeat No. 7 seed Chapman 12-6 on the first day of the SCIAC Championships at Whittier’s Lillian Slade Aquatic Center.

  • Comeback for Athenas falls short in overtime loss to Sagehens

    Down 4-0 in the first quarter, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s water polo team came all the way back to force overtime, only to lose 8-7 in sudden death overtime to Pomona-Pitzer on April 19 at Axelrood Pool. The loss, the first of the conference season for CMS, dropped CMS to 15-12 overall, 7-1 in SCIAC.

    Since the loss to Brown a few weeks ago, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s water polo team has been on a tear through SCIAC competition. Winning the last four games including Wednesday’s 12-8 victory over Redlands, the Athenas remain undefeated in conference play at 5-0.

    So far this spring, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s water polo team has two SCIAC matches under its belt, both wins, but each of the matches have been close as CMS most recently pulled out a 10-8 win over La Verne on March 29 at Axelrood Pool.
  • Sisters face off as Brown beats CMS

    In their first game after spring break, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s water polo team lost to Brown University 12-9 on Tuesday evening. The non-conference matchup drew a big crowd due to the competing sisters: junior Rose Koper for CMS, and freshman Hannah Koper for Brown.

    With just 18 seconds gone by in sudden victory overtime, senior utility Candace Filippelli scored the game-winner to give the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s water polo team a 14-13 win over Chapman in the SCIAC opener March 19 at Axelrood Pool. The win is the fourth in the last five matches for CMS who improve to 9-10 overall, 1-0 in SCIAC.

  • Two-match swing in Santa Barbara kicks off season for Athenas

    After a long offseason, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s water polo team got their 2014 season underway over the weekend with a pair of games in Santa Barbara on Sunday. CMS opened its season against a pair of NCAA Division I opponents as they dropped the opener 13-3 to Long Beach State and lost 12-7 to UC Santa Barbara.
