Ten CMS runners competed at the Pre-National Invitational in Hanover, Indiana on Saturday and were very successful with two men and two women finishing in the top six in their respective races. The Stags finished third overall in the 19-team field while the Athenas did not have enough runners to record a team score. If both teams had their entire lineup racing, it is likely the men would have won and the women would have battled ninth-ranked Trinity University for first.
Allison Barnwell finished second overall in the 228-runner women's field with a time of 22:11.6. Sara Mostatabi finished sixth in 22:36.7. Meghan Fuelling was 36th in 23:48.4 and Olivia Carmo was 56th in 24:15.8.
Zorg Loustalet finished third overall in the 233-runner men's field with a time of 25:34.5. The runners finishing in front of him are both returning All-Americans in both cross country and track with the winner the defending national champion in the steeplechase. Jon Briskman finished fourth with a personal best time of 25:49.0. Colin Briskman was 18th in 26:29.1, Garrett Ryan was 27th in 26:52.6 (PB), Sam Pitcavage was 50th in 27:27.4 and Joshua Sealand was 51st in 27:28.0.
The meet was held on the same course where the NCAA Championships will be run on November 23. Both teams are ranked first in the West Region and, if they finish in the top two at the West Regional on November 16th, will qualify for the Championships for the sixth straight year.
