    The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced the 36th annual All-America teams for NCAA Division III women's volleyball on Nov. 15, 2016 and junior libero Mikena Werner (SC) was honored with the spot on the Second Team.
  • NCAA run cut short by Colorado College in top-10 matchup

    The No. 3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps volleyball lost a heartbreaker in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to No. 8 Colorado College in four sets (15-25, 25-21, 25-14, 25-22). The NCAA Regional was played in Richardson, Tex. on the campus of UT Dallas.

  • Athenas return to NCAA Regionals for fourth straight year

    For the fourth year in a row, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s volleyball team earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament. This season, the Athenas match up with the seed Colorado College in the first round in an eight-team regional hosted by UT Dallas.

    Senior Nicole Kerkhof (CMC) and juniors Shelbi Stein (CMC) and Mikena Werner (SC) were named to the All-West Region Team by the American Volleyball Coaches Association on Nov. 10.
  • Volleyball to face Colorado College in NCAA First Round

    In the Division III women's volleyball selection show on Monday morning, the NCAA announced the field of 64 teams to compete for the 2016 National Championship. The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's volleyball team (23-3) was sent to a Regional hosted by UT Dallas and will face Colorado College (27-5) on Friday, Nov. 11 at 3 p.m. CST (1 p.m. PST).
  • Blocking gives Regals SCIAC Tournament Final

    The Cal Lutheran Regals won the SCIAC Volleyball Tournament Final 3-0 over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (25-23, 25-19, 25-16). In the three set match, the Regals had just seven errors and recorded 23 block assists while the Athenas had 60 digs.
  • Athenas look to defend tournament title

    The No. 2 seed Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s volleyball team is set to host No. 3 seed La Verne for the third consecutive year in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s Postseason Tournament Semifinal. CMS enters the tournament on the heels of earning the program’s fourth SCIAC regular season championship, tying with No. 1 seeded Cal Lutheran at a 14-2 record in conference play. The Regals host No. 4 seed Pomona-Pitzer in the other semifinal match.

    For the fourth straight year, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps volleyball team is headed to Cal Lutheran for the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Postseason Tournament final. The No. 2 seed CMS bested No. 3 seed La Verne on Thursday night 3-1 (27-29, 25-23, 25-19, 25-16) to advance to the conference final.

    After the second-consecutive regular season co-championship in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, the No. 3 ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s volleyball team landed four athletes on the All-Conference first and second team.

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s volleyball team earned the fourth regular season championship in program history with the three set win over Redlands (25-12, 25-11, 25-14) on Saturday afternoon. The Athenas finish the regular season in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a 14-2 record, to tie with Cal Lutheran for the regular season title.

  • Five set loss to Leos breaks streak

    The 18-game win streak for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps volleyball team in the 2016 campaign came to an end the with the 3-2 loss to the University of La Verne (20-25, 21-25, 26-24, 25-21, 15-10) on Tuesday night in front of a rowdy crowd. CMS jumped out to a two set lead but then the Leos built momentum to the fifth set, ultimately taking it 15-10.
  • Usual suspects take care of business for volleyball

    On Saturday night at Occidental’s Rush Gym, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s volleyball team won three sets in a row to beat the Tigers (25-19, 25-21, 25-11). The Athenas’ defense held Occidental to a mere .058 hitting percentage on the night as the team combined for 12 block assists and 51 digs.
  • Arntson hits over .750 in 3-0 win
    October 11, 2016
    Junior Margaux Arntson (CMC) played a flawless match and led the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over Chapman University (25-21, 25-7, 25-13) on Tuesday night. Arntson hit .789 in the match with 15 kills.
  • Volleyball owns Sixth Street with straight set win

    In their first meeting in the 2016 season, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps made quick work of the Pomona-Pitzer volleyball team, winning 3-0 (25-12, 25-13, 25-14). In the match, juniors Shelbi Stein (CMC) and Crystal Anderson (CMC) each hit over .420 with 17 kills combined.
  • Athenas take Redlands in four sets

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s volleyball team maintained their SCIAC winning streak with tonight’s 3-1 victory over Redlands (25-17, 25-13, 24-26, 25-20). The Athenas held the Bulldogs to a .140 hitting percentage over the match, with two of the sets at less than .100.
  • Madsen serves No. 2 Athenas to victory

    Freshman setter Phoebe Madsen (CMC) served for 14 consecutive points in the middle of the first set en route to the 3-1 victory over Whittier (25-7, 25-15, 19-25, 25-12). The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s volleyball team is ranked No. 2 nationally by the AVCA and improves to 14-0 on the season, 5-0 in conference play.
  • Athenas remain undefeated with 3-0 victory over Caltech

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps volleyball team rolled through Caltech with the 3-0 victory (25-19, 13-25, 25-12) on Friday night in the Braun Gymnasium. The Athenas remain undefeated overall at 13-0 and in the SCIAC at 5-0.
  • Team win for Athenas in thriller vs. Cal Lu

    In front of the largest crowd for a volleyball game to date, the No. 2 ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps team bested defending National Champions and No. 4 ranked Cal Lutheran in four sets (15-25-, 25-22, 26-24, 25-19). The Athenas had four hitters in double-digit kills and 16 more digs than the Regals.

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s volleyball team remained undefeated in SCIAC play after the 3-0 defeat of La Verne (25-16, 25-18, 25-17) on Friday night. The Athenas were led by junior libero Mikena Werner (SCR) who had 22 digs in the match.
  • Straight set win for No. 2 Athenas over Oxy

    The No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s volleyball team came away with the 3-0 victory over Occidental (25-14, 25-16, 25-17). The Athenas are now 10-0 overall and leading the conference at 2-0. Senior Nicole Kerkhof (CMC) led all hitters with 11 kills on the night.

    In the second week of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll, two SCIAC programs – the defending national champions, Cal Lutheran and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps – sit at the top. Each team is 8-0 so far, two of 10 teams that are undefeated in the top-25.
