For the eighth-straight season, the Stags made an appearance in the finals of the SCIAC Championships. To reach the finals, CMS defeated Occidental 12-7 in the quarterfinals of the SCIAC Championships and Whittier 10-9 in the semifinals. Pomona-Pitzer defeated CMS 7-4 in the finals. Nevertheless, CMS had an 8-3 conference record in 2016, 16-16 overall. Three Stags were selected to the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-America team: junior Noah Deer (CMC '18), senior Ellison Taylor (CMC '17) and senior Alex Waggoner (CMC '17).
