OUR MISSION
The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Diversity & Inclusion Committee is comprised of athletics personnel, including CMS coaches and support staff, as well as faculty and staff representatives from Claremont McKenna, Harvey Mudd and Scripps Colleges. Our goal is to develop an athletics environment that promotes diverse representation, creates opportunity for all, and allows all individuals to be heard and respected. We are committed to educating ourselves and those within our community, encouraging productive dialogue, empowering all voices to cultivate a diverse and inclusive athletics culture for our student-athletes, coaches and staff.
The committee began meeting regularly in July of 2020. In addition to hosting department speakers and other educational programming throughout the year, one of committee’s most popular initiatives is the CMS Learning Club. The CMS Learning Club is a regular gathering of CMS staff, coaches as well as faculty and staff from Claremont McKenna, Harvey Mudd, and Scripps Colleges. Prior to each meeting, a learning club participant selects an article, film or talk that focuses on a diversity or inclusion related topic. During our in-person gatherings, we meet and engage in discussion on that topic, facilitated by that participant and committee members. More recently the committee has created and led student-athlete learning clubs to provide our student-athletes with these same opportunities to engage in dialogue about various subjects.
We remain excited to pursue and accomplish our goals, which will not only improve the experience for all within CMS Athletics, but also positively affect our surrounding community.
