Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges

CMS Spotlights

2025-26

Jan. 28: Athenas Lacrosse Sisters Corie Hack ('19) and Rylie Hack ('27)

At the Claremont Colleges, academic excellence is not a goal. It is a baseline expectation. Within Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athletics, that same expectation extends to competition, leadership, and personal growth. Few stories capture that experience more completely than those of Corie Hack '19 and Rylie Hack '27. Though both sisters chose to attend Claremont McKenna College, their paths through the CMS women's lacrosse program reflect two distinct journeys shaped by the same rigorous academic culture, shared team identity, and evolving roles within one program.

Jan. 7: Athenas Soccer Player Jordan Yates
For most athletes, soccer begins as a pastime. For Jordan Yates, it began as a way of life. But Jordan's story is far from the simple arc of lifelong passion. It is one defined by grit, loss, leadership, and the ability to rebuild, again and again.

Dec. 17: Stags Swim and Dive Alumnus Cameron Whiting ('15)
When Cameron Whiting '15 reflects on his life so far, from his record-breaking swim career at CMS, to his work alongside real estate legend and fellow CMC alumnus Bob Lowe '62, to the day he helped save a man's life during a shark attack, one word comes to mind: zealous.

Dec. 3: Athenas Basketball Alumna Lindsey Cleary ('20)
When Lindsey Cleary '20 first stepped onto the courts at Roberts Pavilion, she wasn't just pursuing basketball, she was pursuing balance. That balance between academics and athletics, rigor and community, is what she says defines her time at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Claremont McKenna College.

Nov. 19: Stags Water Polo Player Caiden Titus
When first-year student-athlete Caiden Titus arrived at Claremont McKenna College and joined the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags men's water polo team, he quickly embraced what it means to be part of a program that truly leads the way - in competition, in the classroom, and in the community.

Nov. 5: Stags Basketball Alumnus Josh Keough ('04)
Josh Keough is no stranger to being part of something bigger than himself. The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's basketball alum has spent the majority of his life competing in one of the most team-oriented sports there is. From his parents to teammates and coaches, Josh has always had people in his corner, helping him become the leader and person he is today. Now, he's paying that forward to CMS scholar-leader-athletes.

Oct. 22: Stags Soccer Player Miles Demarest
Miles Demarest had no idea a random decision in second grade would turn into a lifelong passion and one that would eventually lead him to the collegiate soccer stage. It started when his youth coach asked for volunteers to play goalkeeper. Demarest raised his hand.

Oct. 8: Athena Soccer/Lacrosse Player Cate Lewison
Cate Lewison, a standout scholar and dual-sport athlete at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, is the embodiment of a scholar-leader-athlete. Lewison's not only a star on the field but also in the classroom, pursuing a degree in computer science and mathematics with a concentration in economics at Harvey Mudd College.

Sept. 24: CMS Football Defensive Coordinator Marvin Sanders
When CMS Defensive Coordinator Marvin Sanders walks onto Zinda Field, he brings with him more than three decades of coaching experience, a resume filled with stops at powerhouse programs, and memories that stretch from college bowl games to NFL sidelines. But what really stands out isn't just the X's and O's, it's the people, lessons, and relationships that have shaped his journey.

Sept. 10: CMS Volleyball Sisters Clara Madsen ('18) and Phoebe Madsen ('20)
At Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, the name "Madsen" carries a legacy - not just of athletic excellence, but of sisterhood, resilience, and the power of playing for something greater than oneself. Clara and Phoebe Madsen, CMS volleyball alumni and sisters, were teammates on the historic 2017 CMS volleyball team that captured the program's first-ever NCAA National Championship. But their story goes far deeper than a trophy. It's a journey of growth, leadership, and a bond that only strengthened through a shared dream.

August 27: CMS Cross Country Coach Marina Muncan
It's not uncommon for life experiences to shape an individual's career path. For CMS cross country and track coach Marina Muncan, those early life experiences were a little different than most. Muncan was born in 1982 in what was then the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, went on to run for Serbia in the 2007, 2009, and 2010 World Championships, and was a member of the Serbian 2012 Olympic team.

August 13: The Zitar Family: Kevin Zitar ('96), Kirsti Zitar ('97), Riley Zitar '26)
At Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, athletics are more than just a way to compete - they're a foundational part of a transformative college experience. For the Zitar family, CMS is not only where they played, but where they grew as students, leaders, and lifelong friends. From Kevin Zitar (CMC '96, P'26, Men's Basketball) to Kirsti Zitar (CMC '97, P'26, Women's Soccer, Tennis, and Track & Field) to their daughter Riley Zitar (CMC '26, Women's Soccer), their story spans generations and is woven deeply into the fabric of Claremont McKenna College.

July 16: CMS Baseball Player Dillon Martin
For many athletes, the love for the game starts early. For Dillon Martin of the CMS Stags baseball team, it all began with a simple game of catch with his dad. "My dad played growing up, and he got me started young," he shared. "I fell in love with it right away."
