Stags Swimming and Diving Moves into Top 10 in National Rankings

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's swimming and diving team moved up four spots to No. 10 in Division III in the November rankings released by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of American (CSCAA).

The Stags began the year ranked No. 14 in the preseason poll, but jumped up four spots on the heels of a strong showing against Division I teams UC San Diego and CSU Bakersfield in their opener, falling to Bakersfield by just 16 points, followed by dominant SCIAC wins over Chapman, Whittier and Caltech.

The strong start enabled CMS to leapfrog over MIT, Williams, Tufts, Carnegie Mellon and TCNJ and earn a place in the top 10. The Stags now have 294 points in the poll, just 10 behind Johns Hopkins in ninth.

SCIAC rival Pomona-Pitzer remained in front of CMS by jumping from No. 13 to No. 7, and the Stags have a chance to jump over the Sagehens when they host a two-day rivalry meet on Dec. 1-2, with diving opening the competition on Friday, Dec. 1 at 1:30 p.m., followed by swimming at 3 p.m. Diving will also open Saturday's competition at 10:30 a.m., with swimming at 12 noon.

The Athenas will also compete head-to-head with Pomona-Pitzer on Dec. 1-2 in what should be a close battle after CMS edged the Sagehens by 10 points for the SCIAC title a year ago. Pomona-Pitzer is currently ranked No. 10 on the women's side, while CMS is ranked No. 12.
