James Settles

After a standout career as a distance runner for Colorado College, James Settles enters his first season as an assistant coach with the CMS cross country program in 2024. 

Settles earned All-America honors three times in his career, twice in the 5000 meters during track and field season, and once in cross country. He was the SCAC Man of the Year and served as the cross country team captain. He holds Colorado College records in the 5K, 8K and 10K. 

After graduating with a 4.0 in computer science, Settles also earned the Track and Field Academic All-American of the Year honor from the College Sports Communicators in 2024. 

Settles is a Claremont native who attended Claremont High School before heading to Colorado College. His parents, Paul and Kathy, have been closely involved with CMS tennis for the last 20 years, with Paul serving as the head coach of the Stags men's tennis program and Kathy serving as a longtime assistant for the Athenas.Â
