Gretchen Rush

Gretchen Rush begins her second year as head women's tenniscoach.  In her first season, she led the Athenas to anundefeated SCIAC season and a fourth place finish at the NCAAChampioships.  She has previously been the head women’stennis coach for San Diego City College from 2008-12.  Shealso served as head women’s tennis coach at Our Lady of PeaceHigh School from 1995-97 and as an assistant coach for thewomen’s tennis team at San Diego State University in the1993-94 academic year.  In addition to her coachingexperience, Rush Magers served as the head tennis professional atPeninsula Tennis Club from 1996-2006.  She has also served astennis professional at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club, LomasSanta Fe Country Club and Fairbanks Ranch Country Club.

Rush played 10 years on the WTA tour and was a top 20 singlesand doubles player. She was a quarterfinalist at the U.S. Open,French Open and Wimbledon. She represented the United States in the1984 Olympics, the World University Games, the Pan American Gamesand the Senior ITF World Championships.  Collegiately, she wasa four-time All-American at Trinity University where she was NCAAdoubles champion in 1983 and NCAA runner-up in singles and doublesin both 1985 and 1986.

Rush has a Bachelor’s in Physical Education from Trinitywith a minor in Biology.  She also earned a Master’s inSports Administration from California University ofPennsylvania.
