EAGLE ROCK, Calif. - After a scoreless first half, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's soccer team scored three goals in a span of 5:230, including two from
Annie McKinley, to take a 3-1 road win over Occidental on Wednesday.
With the win, CMS improves to 8-2-3 overall and 6-2 in the SCIAC, while Occidental remains winless at 0-8-2 overall and 0-7-1 in the league.
Occidental hung tough in the first half and went into the locker room tied 0-0, with CMS holding a narrow 7-4 edge in shots. However, the Athenas found their offense after the half, and
Flora Glantz was able to put CMS in front when she converted off a pass from
Cate Lewison with 33:36 left in the game.
Just 1:36 later, McKinley scored her first of two off a corner kick taken by
Riley Zitar. Then, the two combined on another corner kick goal just 3:44 after their first connection, to make it a 3-0 game with 28:16 left.
Occidental was able to get one back with 12:30 to go, but the Athenas didn't allow a shot the rest of the way to hold on to the 3-1 win.
Sadie Brown had three saves to get the win in goal for CMS, which returns to action in seven days when it faces Occidental again, this time in Claremont.
