Women's Soccer Falls in Sixth Street Finale, Earns Third Seed in SCIAC Tournament

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Hannah Hong scored in the 14th minute and it held up the rest of the way as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's soccer team fell 1-0 to Pomona-Pitzer in the regular season finale on Saturday at Pritzlaff Field.

Pomona-Pitzer earns the regular season SCIAC title and the top seed in the league tournament with the win, improving to 14-1-2 overall and 10-1-1 in the conference. The Athenas slip to 11-3-3 overall and 9-3 in conference with the loss.

Hong's goal came early on on a cross from Amanda Khu after the Athenas had gotten a couple of quality chances in the early going. Tori Holden forced an early save from Pomona-Pitzer's Patricia DePalma, and the Athenas had a good opportunity on a corner kick from Riley Zitar but couldn't capitalize.

Ava Schmitt had a couple of early chances in the second half, forcing a save from DePalma on her third effort. Zitar tried to test DePalma from distance in the 76th minute, but had her shot saved, and the final chance for CMS from Jordan Yates eluded DePalma's dive, but missed to the right.

CMS held a 9-6 edge in shots and a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks. Sadie Brown had two saves for the Athenas in goal.

CMS will head to Cal Lutheran on Wednesday for the SCIAC Semifinals, needing to defeat the defending national champions on the road in order to advance to Saturday's championship game.
