Stags Basketball Improves to 3-0 with Road Win over Life Pacific

SAN DIMAS, Calif. - Will Householter had 19 points to lead a balanced attack as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's basketball team earned a 75-66 road win over Life Pacific on Tuesday evening.

With the win, CMS moves to 3-0 on the young season, while Life Pacific slips to 3-2.

The Stags led almost the whole way, using a 9-0 run in the first half to turn a 13-12 deficit into a 21-13 advantage. Samuel Gibbs put the Stags ahead to stay with 11:49 left in the half to start the run, which was followed by a Luke Jacobson jumper 14 seconds later. Nathan Noronha knocked down a three-pointer to push the lead to 19-13, and Reid Jones capped off the run with a layup.

After the Warriors got the lead down to 21-17, Jacobson and Cahal Connolly made consecutive baskets to get the lead back to eight, and a Jones three-pointer with 6:04 left in the half pushed the lead into double figures for the first time at 30-20. CMS led by as many as 14 in the first half at 36-22, before settling for a 39-31 lead at the break.

Connolly and Householter had two straight baskets in the second half to get the lead to 43-33, and Gibbs and Jones hit two straight three-pointers to get the lead up to its largest point at 55-37 with 11:51 left.

The Warriors rallied and cut the lead back down to five at 63-58 with 5:16 left, but Connolly hit two foul shots and Householter converted two lay-ups in a 7-0 tun to get it back up to 70-58 with 2:02 to go, and the Stags were able to hold on from there.

Jones finished with 15 points, and Connolly had 14 for the Stags, while Joey Kennedy had a team-high 10 rebounds and Brady Karich had six assists. CMS had quality production off its bench as well with 26 points from four reserves, with Jacobson scoring eight points on 4-5 shooting, Gibbs scoring seven on 3-5 shooting, James Frye adding six on 3-5 shooting, and Noronha chipping in with five points.

CMS will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 21 for its home opener against UC Santa Cruz.
