CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Will Householter had 26 points, one off his career high, and
Cahal Connolly added a career-high 21, as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps basketball team earned a 92-81 win over Willamette on Saturday evening at Roberts Pavilion.
With the win, CMS now stands at 5-0 on the year, with all five wins by nine points or more. Willamette slips to 2-3 on the year with the loss.Â
CMS led by 16 points at the half, pushed the lead up to as many as 19 points with 13:45 left on a Connolly dunk, and held off the Bearcats down the stretch, who got as close as seven points with 2:30 to go.
Reid Jones helped finish the game off with two foul shots, then added a steal and an assist to Connolly with 1:42 left ot get the lead back to 11.
James Frye then sealed it with an offensive rebound and putback with 1:23 to play to make the score 90-78.Â
Householter came out on fire with 15 first-half points on 7-9 shooting from the floor. Connolly also started the game 7-7 from the floor before his first miss, and came up one rebound short of a double-double with 21 points and nine rebounds.
Jones finished with 17 points, six rebounds and six assist for the Stags, while finishing with three steals and two blocks defensively, one day after his second 10-steal game of the season.
Joey Kennedy was also in double figures in scoring with 15 points, to go along with seven rebounds.
Brady Karich had eight assists and two steals from his point guard spot, and
Luke Jacobson had eight rebounds in 10 minutes off the bench.Â
CMS will be back in action when it co-hosts the David Wells Classic on Friday and Saturday,  hosting Linfield on Friday at 5 p.m. and playing Puget Sound at Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday at 3 p.m.
