ORANGE, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's basketball team closed out the regular season with a 74-63 road win over Chapman, securing the third seed in next week's SCIAC Tournament.
AJ Rohosy led the Stags with 20 points, shooting 7-for-10 from the field and 6-for-9 from the free throw line. Rohosy also accumulated a team-high 12 rebounds, including five offensive boards, and contributed one steal and one block.
Reid Jones made a significant defensive impact with three steals, while also scoring 10 points and grabbing six rebounds.
Matt Meredith scored 13 points, going 5-for-8 from the floor, and added five rebounds and two steals.
James Frye was efficient, making 4-of-5 shots, finishing with eight points and one steal.
In the first half, CMS established an early advantage over Chapman, with Rohosy scoring a layup at 17:52 to initiate the scoring. CMS widened their lead in the latter part of the half, highlighted by
Neil Owens' three-pointer at 3:07, ultimately leading to a 38-26 advantage for the visiting team by the end of the half.
As the second half progressed, Cruz Billings of Chapman contributed with a series of three-pointers, narrowing the gap to 49-42 by 12:29. CMS was still ahead by just nine at 60-51, when Jones and Owens hit back-to-back three-pointers to push the lead to 15.
CMS concludes its regular season at 18-7 overall and 12-4 in the SCIAC and will next be in action on the road on Friday for the semifinal round.
