Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Rohosy Has 20-20 Game, but Redlands Comes Back to Edge Stags Basketball

REDLANDS, Calif. - AJ Rohosy had 20 points and a career-high 20 rebounds, but the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's basketball team dropped a 70-65 road decision to Redlands on Wednesday evening at Currier Gymnasium.

The loss drops CMS to 14-5 overall and 8-2 in the league, while Redlands moves a half-game up on the Stags at 17-3 overall and 9-2 in conference play.

Rohosy had come close to a 20-20 game on several occasions, including 18 rebounds twice, and a 36-point, 16-rebound effort against Redlands in the first meeting, a 99-97 Stags win. This time around, he had a double-double in the first half alone with 14 points and 11 rebounds, but the Bulldogs were able to limit his touches in the second half as they rallied from 12-points down for the win.

The Stags were up 38-36 at the half, and started the second half on a quick 10-0 run, with two Reid Jones jumpers sandwiched around a Caelan Jones three-pointer and a Neil Owens three-pointer.

However, with the score 54-42 in favor of CMS, Redlands responded with a pivotal 19-0 run to go ahead 61-54, holding CMS scoreless from the 14:33 mark until Reid Jones ended the drought with two foul shots with 5:28 to go. Owens hit a three-pointer, and Reid Jones had a three-point play to get CMS within 63-62 with 4:17 to go, but Jake Hlywiak answered with a three-pointer to start a 7-0 run for Redlands and the Stags couldn't threaten again.

Reid Jones finished with 14 points, Caelan Jones had 13, and Owens chipped in with 11 for the Stags. Rohosy was held to only two field goal attempts in the second half by the double-teaming Redlands defense, going 1-2 to finish the game 8-15 from the floor. He is now averaging 26.3 points and 13.1 rebounds on 70.3 percent shooting in conference games.

CMS will be back in action on Saturday when it travels to Whittier for a 4 p.m. contest.
